And now, in honor of Volkswagen’s 75th anniversary in America, the German automaker brings its legendary Gewürz Ketchup to U.S. shores for a limited time.
Now, this isn’t ordinary ketchup. It’s the same sauce served with VW’s famous currywurst in Germany since 1973. Gewürz is known for its unique flavor; this ketchup has captivated European fans, and now Americans can finally taste the hype. So, while some of us may be thinking about adding a new Volkswagen to the driveway, why not grab a bottle of this fan-favorite condiment for the kitchen?
For those unfamiliar with VW’s currywurst, it’s a must-try. First created by Volkswagen’s chefs over 50 years ago, there’s a special sausage served in bite-sized pieces and drenched in the Gewürz Ketchup. Unlike typical ketchup, this version has a sweeter, richer flavor with a tangy, spicy kick. It’s often described as the love child of ketchup and barbecue sauce, making it perfect for sausage and anything that needs a flavorful boost.
Volkswagen takes its ketchup seriously—so much so that it has its part number, just like a car component. Along with the Gewürz Ketchup, VW offers a curry sauce that pairs perfectly with its signature currywurst, delivering a more traditional, spicy curry flavor.
As part of Volkswagen’s anniversary celebration, the automaker offers a limited batch of Gewürz Ketchup for free on its DriverGear website. Fans will need to act fast, as supplies will run out quickly. Furthermore, enthusiasts can sample the ketchup in person at ChainFEST, a gourmet food festival in Los Angeles on October 5, 2024.
