Volkswagen’s Exit Warning System Helps Passengers Stay Safe

Volkswagen’s Exit Warning System will now come standard on the all-electric ID.7 , Volkswagen will also offer the system standard in the new Tiguan and Passat. The new Volkswagen exit warning system helps passengers exit the vehicle safely and avoid dangerous situations in inner-city traffic. The system is capable of warning drivers and passengers when it detects vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists in close range. Additionally, the warning system provides protection to the rear doors, the exit warning system is offered in the newest Golf, ID.4, and ID.5 as an available option in a technically specific form.
The Volkswagen ID.7 offers the most benefits with the exit warning system, scanning the area behind the vehicle via radar sensors, the sensors are located on the left and right bumpers and scans the area and warns passengers of any danger before the door handle is used. The system is active for three minutes after the vehicle has been parked and turned off. The warning system has different levels of warning passengers, the first is an LED light in the exterior mirror that automatically lights up. Following that warning if the door handle is pressed the vehicle will prevent the door from opening for a short period of time. If the door is opened a warning signal sound will begin to alert passengers to stay in the vehicle.
The Passat and Tiguan exit warning system for the is similar to the ID.7. The ID.4 and ID.5 offer the exit warning system as an available option, and works the same as the ID.7 except for one difference. The LED light on the exterior mirror is activated when danger is detected and a passenger is operating one of the door handles. The Volkswagen Golf was one of the first vehicles to feature an exit warning system. The Golf, Passat, and Tiguan are all equipped with mechanical door locks so the only feature that’s not available.
