Volkswagen myVW Mobile App Integrates AI

Through a strategic partnership with Google Cloud, Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) announced today that the myVW mobile app will now incorporate generative AI. The company is located in Sunnyvale, CA, and Reston, VA. Volkswagen is leveraging the expertise of Google Cloud Consulting and the industry-leading AI and machine learning capabilities of Google Cloud to power its new myVW Virtual Assistant, which provides drivers with easy access to critical vehicle data and services. The new generative AI-powered Virtual Assistant in the myVW app allows all owners of MY24 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles to access information and responses specific to their cars.
The myVW Virtual Assistant combines data from Volkswagen’s linked cars with Gemini models on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform to deliver accurate, low-latency information to customers. Owners of Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles may access their owners’ manuals and ask questions like “How do I change a flat tire?” by using the new Virtual Assistant through the myVW app. and “What is the meaning of this digital cockpit indicator light?” Moreover, Gemini’s multi-modal features enable users of the myVW app to view pertinent data and context on indicator lights by pointing their smartphone camera at their dashboards.

Due to the combination of Google Cloud’s Vertex AI and BigQuery, Volkswagen is able to base and fine-tune its Gemini models on a multitude of data sources, such as owner’s manuals for the vehicles, frequently asked questions from customers, articles from the support center, official Volkswagen YouTube videos, and detailed instructions. Volkswagen also benefited from the experience of Google Cloud Consulting during the entire app development process. Owners of most Volkswagen vehicles manufactured in MY20 and later models will be able to access the new Volkswagen Virtual Assistant via the myWV app starting in 2025. The myVW app is available for download from both the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.
