Volkswagen has always been known for its impressive and enjoyable vans for decades. One of the most famous vans that Volkswagen has produced was the all-wheel drive Vanagon Syncro which was released in 1985. Volkswagen had manufactured limited units through 1992, most of their vans at the time had rear-engine and rear-wheel drive. The Syncros were never known for their performance and acceleration, the vans came with a 2.1-liter gasoline engine with 95 horsepower and 117 pound-feet of torque. The Syncro was given a few more features for its second year, including an improved air conditioning system, upgraded gearboxes, and a tachometer.

The Vanagon Syncro had larger brakes and reinforced bodywork compared to the standard Volkswagen vans. The Syncro came equipped with larger CV joints and the wheelbase was increased by an inch. Underbody protection with skid plates and bracing was added by Volkswagen which gave the Syncro great off-road capabilities. The transmission and rear differential share oil in the original Syncro design, which caused problems, and there were complications with other drivetrain components, like the differential housing. Future models used different engine options to maximize performance. Regardless of the setbacks, the Syncros did amazing on off-road terrain. The four-wheel-drive system used an adhesive coupling to permanently spread the engine’s torque to all four wheels.

Volkswagen’s 1950 Microbus was nicknamed the love bus. Volkswagen now prepares for the release of its all-new 2023 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Microbus which is a fully electric version. Volkswagen ID. Family consists of purely electric vehicles which the automaker plans to expand and sell only electric vehicles. The all-new 2023 ID. Buzz features an aerodynamic body and a 150 kW electric motor that generates 201 horsepower. The microbus comes with a 77 kWh battery which helps lower the center of gravity and reduces roll minimization due to the battery being integrated deep into the vehicle’s floor, and its weight is dispersed in the center of the vehicle for neutral handling.

Volkswagen fans will see the interior design of the ID. Buzz features two individual seats in the front of the vehicle, Volkswagen also offers available captain’s chairs for the van. In the back of the van, there is a three-seater bench that is split 40:60 which creates extra legroom or luggage space. Volkswagen has plans to make the ID. Buzz into a self-driving taxi service, or a self-driving ambulance, and eventually go into helping the workforce deliver goods with no need for a driver. Volkswagen partnered up with Argo AI’s self-driving system to create routes for its autonomous vehicles.

The ID. Buzz is fitted with a new driver assistance system which includes a Travel Assist system with swarm data utilization, lane change assist, and Park Assist Plus. Park Assist Plus uses a memory function that aids the vehicle in automatically going into a home or parking space. The 2023 Buzz models that are leaving the factory will feature the latest software version 3.2, which is capable of updating over the air. Using over-the-air updates, the ID. Buzz will be able to receive new upgrades to the infotainment system or vehicle performance. Ready to find out more about Volkswagen’s plans?
