The ID.UNYX Debuts in China

As part of its “In China, for China” policy, the Volkswagen brand is reducing the range of products it offers in order to better cater to its Chinese customers. The first vehicle under a new Volkswagen sub-brand, the ID. UNYX, was introduced by the carmaker. The very innovative design of the E-SUV coupé, which has a 600-kilometer range, an intelligent human-machine interface (HMI) with a 3D avatar that can be customized, and its name alludes to it. Volkswagen’s most recent intelligently networked vehicle, the ID. UNYX, is aimed toward the Chinese market. The ID. UNYX is aesthetically pleasing and technically engineered to suit the lifestyle of young people living in China’s main cities. The retail concept for the ID. UNYX sub-brand will enable this by enabling interested parties to experience the vehicle utilizing state-of-the-art technology like virtual and augmented reality. There will be 40 unique boutiques scattered over 20 locations.
Volkswagen will release four more ID.Family models by 2026. Four more cars will be added to the new Volkswagen sub-brand ID. UNYX’s model portfolio in the next three years, joining the newly unveiled E-SUV coupé. This group includes both sedans and SUVs. The ID. UNYX vehicles are a crucial part of the Volkswagen master plan for China, which aims to establish Volkswagen as the most successful foreign brand on the Chinese market by releasing 34 new models by 2030. In China, Volkswagen’s product line will be expanded with the help of the new Volkswagen Smart E-Mobility Hub, the long-standing joint ventures SAIC Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen, and 16 new electric ID models, 12 new Volkswagen models with combustion engines, and 6 new plug-in hybrid drive models. This includes the ID.UNYX program.
The ID. UNYX was created in Volkswagen’s new innovation and development unit in Hefei, eastern China. The only purpose of this facility is to produce the newest intelligent electric car models for the local market. The ID. UNYX is also made in Hefei, which is home to one of the Volkswagen Group’s most advanced electric vehicle facilities.
Part of the distinctive HMI of the ID. UNYX is an interactive, AI-based 3D avatar whose appearance can be individually modified in an app and coupled with the car HMI. It is possible to customize the avatar’s voice to sound human when speaking with the driver.
The ID. UNYX entry-level car is powered by a 210 kW (286 PS) electric drive motor located on the rear axle. Powering the motor is a net 77 kWh battery. As per the CLTC standard and the China Light-Duty Test Cycle, the drive system has a maximum range of 621 kilometers. There will also be an all-wheel-drive model with two 250 kW (340 PS) electric drive motors.
The Volkswagen ID. UNYX has a particularly powerful innovative design. Lifestyle elements such as the gold-colored Volkswagen symbol on the front and the golden vehicle lettering are distinctive; in China, the color of these emblems is associated with enhanced quality, reliability, and safety of a Volkswagen. The powerdome and the LED matrix headlamps, with their characteristic light signature that incorporates a horizontal LED strip, are the visually striking elements situated at the front. The ID. UNYX silhouette is defined by an intensely cut character line that increases toward the back. The elegant coupé-style rear end features a three-dimensional arrangement of LED tail lights, an illuminated horizontal strip, and Volkswagen lettering. The intricate LED parts provide a floating light appearance that ideally accentuates the forward-thinking style of the body design.
