The 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and R Earn Top Safety Pick Honors
The Golf accolades continue to mount. Volkswagen of America announced that the Golf GTI took home the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) 2022 Top Safety Pick for the eighth time. The IIHS Top Safety Pick for the GTI stems from the newly equipped High Beam Control (Light Assist). Furthermore, the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R also earned a spot atop the 2022 Top Safety Pick+.
The IIHS’s Top Safety Pick stems from “good” ratings in six crashworthiness tests. Additionally, any vehicle that made the IIHS list for the 2022 Top Safety Pick had to receive no less than an “advanced” rating for both front crash prevention tests.
Of course, the Volkswagen Golf GTI earned good ratings in six crash-worthy evaluations. The 2022 Golf GTI’s LED headlights with the optional High Beam Control come standard on the Autobahn trim. Moreover, the Golf GTI Autobahn trim received an acceptable rating as well.
