Revamped and Ready to Go: Here’s the 2025 Volkswagen ID.3

When Volkswagen introduced the ID.3, it faced numerous challenges due to its compact design and incomplete infotainment software. However, subsequent updates significantly enhanced the ID.3’s performance. Now, Volkswagen is rolling out a brand-new infotainment system, increased power, and an improved preconditioning function for quicker charging.
The headline feature is the new 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with upgraded software. Volkswagen assures users of a “new, intuitive menu structure,” integration with ChatGPT, and a redesigned layout that places climate controls in a separate bar at the bottom of the screen. This adjustment aims to simplify climate adjustments, although touch-sensitive sliders beneath the screen remain for temperature and volume control. While Volkswagen pledged to reintroduce physical buttons in its vehicles, the steering wheel retains the same controls for now, with potential for future updates.
The ID.3 Pro S variant receives a power boost to 170 kilowatts (227 horsepower/230 PS), resulting in a 0-62 mph sprint time of 7.1 seconds. Despite using the same 77 kWh battery pack, Volkswagen claims an improved range of up to 347 miles WLTP, up from 338 miles in the pre-update model.
Improved charging performance is also a noteworthy highlight. The electric VW now charges quicker thanks to innovative charging and thermal management functions that precondition the battery before DC charging stops. Furthermore, the tool becomes particularly useful during cold weather and reduces charging time.
The new infotainment system offers additional features, including assisted lane changes with adaptive cruise control enabled and a Car2X traffic hazard function that provides early warnings of potential dangers on the road.
Park Assist Plus is more refined, delivering parking maneuvers of up to 50 meters. A new safety feature prevents doors from opening if approaching vehicles pose a risk of collision. Additionally, the optional 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system now offers more settings, and a new integrated wellness app adjusts vehicle settings based on three customizable modes.
Only the ID.3 Pro S in Europe boasts these updates, but they will soon extend to the entire model lineup. Imelda Labbé, a senior Volkswagen official, emphasizes that these improvements reflect customer needs and align with the positive feedback from drivers of other ID. models.
