A Look Inside the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is around the corner, and as a present for the future, the German automaker released a few details. Aside from the new mid-life update, Volkswagen unveiled the SUV’s pricing and specifications. 

Although it’s effortless to confuse the Tiguan Allspace with the Tiguan (especially with the new facelift), the Tiguan is just a five-seater to the Allspace’s seven capacity. In addition to the Allspace’s capacity, the Volkswagen SUV comes to life in a different factory and operates on a different product cycle. 

As much as there are differences between the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace, there are just as many similarities. For example, the two Volkswagen SUVs harbor a similar range. The standard Tiguan starts with the 110TSI Life, the 132 TSI, and the 162TSI options. The diesel 147TDI R-Line caps off the range department.   

The Tiguan Allspace competes with some pretty heavy contenders in the mid-size SUV segment. However, remarkable ingenuity is at the forefront of every vehicle bearing the Volkswagen name since only a handful of mid-size SUVs provide seven seats. Other seven-seaters include the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail, and Honda CR-V, but these are others struggling to compete where they don’t compare. 

Unfortunately, there will be no seven-seat Tiguan Allspace R this time around. However, pricing commences at $44,590* (excluding taxes and destination fee) and stretches to $61,690* for the 147TDI R-Line. With that said, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will hit the market in May of 2022.

Engines 

Powering the standard Allspace 110TSI Life is the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The turbocharged four-cylinder renders 148-horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. Then there’s the 132TSI Life, powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces 177-horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Next, there’s the 162TSI Elegance, and its power is more potent with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that yields a 258-horsepower. Then the 147TDI Elegance proffers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with 197-horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Lastly, the 132TSI, 162TSI, and 147TDI variations harbor a mated wet dual-clutch transmission plus Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. 

Safety 

The 2022 Tiguan Allspace earned a five-star ANCAP safety rating in 2016. The Allspace attained 96% for adult occupant protection, 80% for child occupant protection, and 68% for its safety assist.
