Cruise along any European street and ask any driver their favorite vehicle, and the answer is sure to elicit one of the “Big Five.” Of course, the Big Five consists of the best German Automakers: BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, and Volkswagen. The real MVP of the Big Five is Volkswagen; the automaker exemplifies quality material at a feasible price.

Since 1937, Volkswagen has constructed a reputation as “the people’s car,” the German automakers produced a mass quantity of affordable vehicles. Eighty-five years later and the Das Automaker continues to expand beyond measure. Volkswagen’s expansion is so rapid that the automaker holds one of the largest manufacturing plants in the world.

The Volkswagen Wolfsburg Plant is unlike any other factory. Yet, aside from the Volkswagen plant’s gargantuan premises, the small town harbors a resilient workforce, ample supplies, and revolutionary technology solutions.

What Came First: the Beetle or the Plant?

Located in Lower Saxony, Wolfsburg is a city that is 143 miles west of Berlin. The Wolfsburg plant came to fruition in 1938, and Wolfsburg served as the stomping ground for Volkswagen’s car manufacturing.

In 1938, the only equipment to enter and leave the assembly plant was military equipment for World War II. Then out of smoke and ashes arose the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. After that, the Wolfsburg factory would produce 12 million units of the exquisite Beetle.

Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg Plant continued the production of its distinguished vehicles such as the Golf and, more recently popular, the Tiguan. It’s not easy to summarize the entire history of Wolfsburg. However, anyone looking to arrange the VW Plant’s history chronologically will have a lot of fun with 70,000 publications.

The Figures Behind the Wolfsburg Plant

The Wolfsburg Plant occupies 1600 acres and operates through 60,000 people. Respectfully, the VW plant could function as a city. The factory breathes life unlike any other with a beautiful landscape and tours conducted regularly.

Additionally, Volkswagen constructed the ‘Autostadt’ (City of Cars) located next to the VW plant. The City of Cars came to be because Volkswagen wanted to commemorate the automaker’s history with a collection of cars and lakes, parks, and train stations.

Furthermore, the Volkswagen factory produces 3,500 vehicles daily. The key ingredient to the Plants output is its innovative tech and resilient employees; VW has assembled 45 million cars.

Temporary Restraints

Although the Volkswagen Plant grew in size, even Ralf Brandstaetter (Volkswagen’s first CEO)  wouldn’t recognize the true capacity in the factory details. Volkswagen was no exception to the global chip shortage.

In 2021, the largest manufacturing plant in the world took a nosedive in vehicle production. As a result, the entire workforce needed to approach operations with new eyes. But there’s nothing like perseverance to humble the world’s best.

In recent months data demonstrates that the Volkswagen plant gained more stability. The DasAutomaker intends to invest $2.6 million in constructing a new plant not too far from Wolfsburg. Volkswagen plans to develop the new Trinity, and it is electric.

With a new Volkswagen Plant underway, will the Wolfsburg factory transition into an EV factory. Does the German Automaker have what it takes to overthrow Tesla? Only time will tell, but Volkswagen proves a significant contribution to the “Big Five.”
