A Look at the Volkswagen Amarok

The 2022 Volkswagen Amarok is a midsize truck influenced by the Ford Ranger. Although the Amarok exterior looks nothing like the Ford Ranger, the mechanics are indistinguishable. Volkswagen intends to replicate the Ford Ranger Raptor Fighter with or without the Blue Oval’s assistance. The Drive reported that the ‘Das Automaker’ has its sights on the Amarok becoming a competitive off-road pickup. Furthermore, Volkswagen explored a series of options to make this dream a reality.
The Volkswagen with the Heart of a Ford Raptor
Even though the Volkswagen Amarok bears a solid resemblance to the new Ford Ranger, it lacks a crucial ingredient, the Ranger Raptor parts. Of course, Volkswagen would appreciate obtaining access to the Raptor’s hardware from Ford. Nevertheless, if access to the hardware doesn’t go as planned, the German engineers will construct a Raptor competitor that Ford wished they made an ally.
Walkinshaw Performance is an Australian company Volkswagen previously collaborated with to develop the tuned W-Series Amarok pickup. The W-Series trucks employed tune suspensions and steering plus underbody protection and aesthetic transformations. So while the Ford Raptor’s hardware appeals as a better option for Volkswagen, a partnership with Walkinshaw Performance has a familiar ring to it.
Again, the collaboration with Walkinshaw Performance sounds like the spark plugs to catapult the future off-roading Amarok to life. But even with a pickup segment full of off-road models, Walkinshaw plus the cleverness of Volkswagen’s ingenuity makes for a pickup unlike any other. Besides, the social forums would buzz to popularity with Amarok and Raptor enthusiasts going toe-to-toe of which pickup is better.
If the Amarok and the Ford Raptors parts come to fruition, sales may skyrocket. After all, the mention of the Ford Ranger’s influence on the pickup has garnered the Volkswagen pickup with a lot of attention. Therefore, the Volkswagen Amarok may be the perfect substitution since the Ford Bronco Raptor is a hot commodity.
Is the Volkswagen Amarok Headed to America?
Looking to the future, the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok may attain a 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder engine similar to the Ford Ranger. There’s also speculation that the Amarok’s base trim will feature Volkswagen’s 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine.
The VW pickup will ride on the same platform as the Ford Ranger and the same components. The powertrains may attain a six-speed manual transmission and an optional ten-speed automatic transmission with 4×2 or the option of 4×4.
Volkswagen has intentions on an off-road variant and a plug-option. The hybrid variation will feature a turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with one electric motor at a minimum. So with all the hypotheticals, it’s clear to see that nothing is for sure, and neither is the indication that the pickup will make its way to America. We should know more once Volkswagen debuts the new 2022 Amarok.
